They are treating this mundane orbital alignment as a "breakthrough," as if discovering that a large object can block light is a feat of supreme intellect. While the rest of the collective uses such ringed masses for high-speed grav-racing, the humans are writing academic scrolls and congratulating themselves on solving a mystery that any fledgling larva could identify by its gravitational signature. They seem particularly excited about studying planetary scale ring systems, failing to realize their own orbital junk field will soon achieve similar opacity if they do not stop launching shiny metal boxes into the atmosphere.
